What is Ozone Therapy?
Ozone is a compound consisting of three oxygen atoms (O3). It’s a form of two atomic normal atmospheric oxygen (O2) which carries very high energy. Ozone is also known as super oxygen colloquially, is a colourless gas which has characteristic odour at ambient temperature. Ozone therapy is a process of injecting medical ozone used as a mixture of pure ozone and pure oxygen into the body in various applications. The ozone concentration varies between 1 and 100 µg/ml (0.05 – 5 %O3) depending on the application. Ozone which is also knows as youth elixir, is also used in many acute and chronic diseases in medicine.

Who Should Avoid From Ozone Therapy Application?
Ozon therapy cannot be applied to those with glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme deficiency (favism), pregnant women particularly in early stages of pregnancy, those who have angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors treatment, hyperthyroidism, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled cardiovascular diseases and asthma reacting to ozone. The procedure cannot be applied to minors without their parents alongside.
What are The Periods and Stages of Ozone Therapy Application?
The number of Ozone Therapy sessions, number of injections; vary according to the treated area and problem. It takes approximately 10 sessions (if necessary, the number of sessions can be increased). Sessions intervals are at least 2 days and vary according to the area and problem. The application session takes approximately 30-60 minutes. The area to be applied is cleaned with antiseptic solutions. The process is done with injection. At the end of the application, power plate application is recommended to accelerate and simplify the distribution of ozone. At the end of the ozone application, the antioxidant system is stimulated and resistance to the oxidative stress develops. Various cytokine levels also increase due to the oxidation of fatty acids in the cell membrane. These helps to renew the skin, strengthen the immunity, increase blood circulation and accelerate the metabolism.
What are the Points to Be Considered Before and After Ozone Therapy Application?
It’s recommended not to use aspirin, blood thinners, alcohol before the application. It’s recommended to come without make-up to the application. If the person uses any medicine, the specialist should be informed. The treated area should not be touched. The person should not take a shower for 1 day after the application and should not consume alcohol beverages. Applications such as rub, peeling should not be applied, creams containing glycolic acid should not be used for 1 week. The person should prevent from the sunlight and the recommended creams should be used.
What Are the Side Effects of Ozone Therapy Application?
Side effects that can occur (redness, bleeding, bruising, allergic reactions, burning, itching, oedema) pass approximately within 5-7 days. If there is a complication, the healing process may vary depending on the skin type of the person.
